behold the day for the woman
well we’re here, international women’s day, that much-anticipated annual event wherein some corporation asks me to speak about BEING A WOMAN and then inevitably during preparation for said speech/panel/fireside gets into defensive semantics over whether or not they, the ONE CORPORATE UNICORN OF EXCEPTIONS that they are, are really “as bad” as their competitors, who are, of course, “the real problem”.
cue this year’s thwarted event, for the wild hubris of a new approach, aka “we actually don’t have a gender gap at our company!” (claire googles board of directors and laughs without mirth.) this statement, followed shortly thereafter by true hallucinations, in the form of: “actually our whole country is doing really well in terms of the gender gap!”
yes uh YAH V GOOD have some more of those tasty mushrooms; i’ll just sit this one out.
back to the newsletter. it’s endlessly interesting to measure time passing in the form of newsletters I’m not writing. to be fair, it was summer in south america and no one does anything for the entire month of January (or was it February?) but also I just want to remind you that I opened a newsletter from someone this month I very much respect that said something like “sorry for not writing you for two years” so i’m ahead of the game?
in conclusion, war is awful and wear some blue and yellow without ceasing.
heart to you, the mothers and fathers and brothers and sisters and boys and girls of sweet ukraine.
Dumpster Fires (day of woman, edition)

RIP to Paul Farmer, a legend among men.
Crypto investment into Latin America grew tenfold in 2021. Prolly nothing. And the women have arrived.
Congrats to Ana Zucato at Noh, for announcing the next best woman-led fintech in LatAm on international woman’s day. Proud to be an investor and go go go!
Congrats to Lolita Taub on launching Ganas Ventures also on the day of the woman!!!!!!!
Smile (for Zelenskyy, primarily)
Hang the hell in there, Ukraine.
And everyone else also,
P.S. In the hellscape I’ve watched Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and The African Queen. ALL FOR THE FIRST TIME. Welcome to the crumbling world, self. What other old movies is it a prerequisite for humans to view?
