Hello!
Welcome to new subscribers and old. It’s our second week using this new setup, so let’s assume something won’t be perfect.
In timeline news, it’s September of the hellscape, and it’s also Thursday, which is better than Wednesday, in the scope of things. It’s also nearly Spring for me (not for you, prolly) so I guess I can gloat?
Some things of note:
“No, I don’t want to hold the worm right now,” says this 5-star mom on live tv and I laugh all the way home…
“No, I don’t want to hold the worm right now” Shoutout to all the mums holding it down and working like the pros they are 🙌🏽🙏🏽🙋🏾♀️🙋🏿♀️🙋🏻♀️ https://t.co/a4iROZwdliI love live television 🤣 📺 #COVID19 https://t.co/IMzN8QVJihMichel Boyer @BoyerMichelI particularly love that the children in this video are not 2 or 3, but rather 8… or 9?…thus shattering the myth that children grow up and become self-reliant while mommy is doing her Zooms. (In other pet-related news, the twins spent a few hours “loving on” a butterfly the other day, and it was pretty much the worst part of my week.) Oh, and BTW the pandemic is a mental health crisis for parents, but no one is surprised.
Do you know how other people see you? Here are some key tips to increase self-awareness. Two of my favorite female thought leaders — Tasha Eurich and Whitney Johnson — came together to share on this topic here. (See the transcript or the podcast episode.)
Why efficiency is dangerous and why slowing down makes life better is a good read that will remind you to, you know.
As for slowing down, I’m reading 5 books simultaneously right now, which is about 1-2 more than normal. Usually I read a travel memoir, a dense non-fiction book and then some other rando thrown in so I can switch between depending on how I feel in a particular moment. That said, I’m currently overloaded because Emma Sanchez Andrade Smith gifted me an audible subscription and I’m mainlining the latest Inspector Gamache mystery. All the Devils Are Here is #16 in this fantastic series by Louise Penny, and I think one of the best? Also, it’s in Paris.
Speaking of Emma, I’m so pumped to watch her kill it with Jefa, her new global women’s bank launching in Latin America. Working with her has made my 2020 pivot to full-time investing in female founders (and dudes) a joy.
We started watching Young Wallandar on Netflix, wherein famed detective Kurt Wallandar has now gone back 30 years in time and is now a hot man-child of twenty-something discovering crimes in his beloved Sweden. In a time-bending twist, it’s happening NOW, which my husband explained to me is a thing with comics? And some movies? I was confused. SO good.
Also, Lucia (6) and I watched an episode of Nailed it! this week, wherein horrible bakers make horrible cakes and we all laugh. Afterwards, I read about 30 cakes that should never have been made. (Thanks Mel!)
You guys, my kid won’t stop talking. Is there an app for this?
In conclusion, my favorite unsubscription this week goes to anonymous, who said, "I’m unsubscribing because I can’t look past your writing style. No matter how great your info is, the presentation is too informal and unprofessional for me to take seriously."
So true, anonymous, so true.

I'm mainlining Inspector Gamache, too! Have we talked about this? I'm on book 12 (I think?), and I'm trying to speed-read so I can finally read the newest one, but then I'll be sad because I'll be caught up and will have to find something else to bide my time.
