Oldest Living Aristocratic Widow Tells All

I rewatched White Mischief, the insane 1987 movie based on the amazing book by the same name. Highly recommended, and have re-deep-dived into everything, always, per usual.

White Mischief (1987), directed by Michael Radford, dramatises the events of the Happy Valley murder case in Kenya in 1941, wherein Sir Henry “Jock” Delves Broughton was tried for the murder of Josslyn Hay, 22nd Earl of Erroll. The film is based upon the novel White Mischief: The Murder of Lord Erroll (1982), by James Fox, which originated from a newspaper article published in 1969.[5]

In 1969 James Fox and Cyril Connolly began investigating the case for an article in The Sunday Times called "Christmas at Karen". When Connolly died in 1974 Fox inherited his notes and theories, and returned to Kenya to undertake further research. The result was the book White Mischief, published in 1982.[7][2] The title came from Black Mischief, Evelyn Waugh's satirical novel set in the mythical African kingdom of Azania. The New York Times called it "a fascinating book."[8] The Boston Globe said "had ‘White Mischief’ been a work of fiction it would have required the collaboration of Agatha Christie and P. G. Wodehouse."[9] While researching the book Fox also collected information about Beryl Markham, which was turned into the film A Shadow on the Sun.[10]

I finally finished Sir Vidia's Shadow: A Friendship Across Five Continents by one of my favorite authors, Paul Theroux, after losing it for several months amongst the other 2,500 books in my house (I’ve counted). Thanks to Reading through the Night by Jane Tompkins, another book I loved, for the push to read it.

“I was just a young man in Africa, trying to make my life. He was one of the strangest men I had ever met, and the most difficult. He was almost unlovable. He was contradictory, he quizzed me incessantly, he challenged everything I said, he demanded attention, he could be petty, he uttered heresies about Africa, he fussed, he mocked, he made his innocent wife cry, he had impossible standards, he was self important, he was obsessive on the subject of his health. He hated children, music, and dogs. But he was also brilliant, and passionate in his convictions, and to be with him, as a friend or fellow writer, I had always to be at my best.”
― Paul Theroux, Sir Vidia's Shadow: A Friendship Across Five Continents

In regards to Prince Harry’s SPARE, I feel like this insight I posted was WAY under-appreciated. How did the press not go more nuts with this?

We the public have accepted a lot on this journey w Meg & H but we MUST NOT ACCEPT that Prince Harry did not know who William Faulkner was until he found him on BrainyQuotes.com.

Startups, etc.

When does Elon Musk sleep? No, but actually.

I lost my mind thinking this was the real account of a General Partner at Sequoia for 5 long minutes. I had to immediately text 15 venture capitalists to find closure.
