Do junk mysteries count? If so, I can almost meet my goal!!! Serious books with quality writing and difficult messages take longer.

Great insights and very helpful. I use the VIM lense via Dallas Willard (The Reliable Pattern for Change -- VISION, INTENTION, MEANS) to explain my process in a similar way: https://resourcesforus.wordpress.com/2022/06/26/100-books-ive-read-so-far-this-year-and-how-you-can-read-more-too/

PS: Here are the books I read in 2023 (and I’m up to 18 so far in 2024): https://resourcesforus.wordpress.com/2023/12/29/books-i-read-in-2023/

Thanks, Erich. I've never heard of the VIM lense. Will check it out!

You're welcome. Willard primarily uses it in the area of Spiritual Formation but says change of any kind can happen if all 3 of those components are present. If you are missing any one of the 3, lasting change will not happen.

This is good, practical advice for getting a certain number of books read. What about actually taking the information you’re consuming and applying it to your life? If you’re reading non-fiction, isn’t that part of the goal? Finding wisdom and applying it? Any tips for that? 😁

Definitely that's the goal with non-fiction, but I'm reading less and less business or self-improvement non-fiction these days! When I do, my main thing is highlighting - real, or in kindle - and note-taking. What do you do??

I get a physical copy and a kindle copy. I read the physical copy and highlight as I go. The next day I open the Kindle copy and make the same highlights referencing my physical copy. That syncs to Readwise which gives me a daily review of highlights and quotes from all my books. I currently fall short in creating a way to link and cross-reference similar ideas from all the various books I’m reading. I’ve connected Readwise to several of the newer-breed of note-taking and everything apps like Notion, Tana, Reflect, etc., but I haven’t decided which one I want to commit to.

I liked Readwise when I used for a month and paid. now I think all my Kindle syncs still go there? But I haven't checked.

As long as you still have an account, I think so.

It’s like watching two shows at once! You just pick up where you left off!
