Not all screen time is created equal — sometimes it's about connecting or learning something new, not just mindless scrolling. And hey, if crosswords are the culprit, I say that’s a pretty solid reason LOL

Thank you Claire.

Agreed. And I think crosswords, within reason, are pretty awesome indeed;)

Excellent. My 13 yr old grandson and I are using digital tools to research Archimedes in prep for a trip to Greece. Just why does that ship float? We will find out:)

I love this! And why did it? ;)

We named a "hammer" our resident "sweet witch" threw it in the pond, and it didn't float...until...we used an Amazon box and covered it with plastic. We placed our resident sweet witch hammer in the box, put it on the pond, and the witch floated. Blessings to Archimedes for teaching us the buoyancy of water displacement.

Such a relief to hear a different take on screens and kids (also less guilt for my Substack minutes)!

This is so true! My son’s (12) three biggest uses of screen time on his iPad are: Drawing on Procreate, reading his DC comics unlimited comics, and reading deep lore and strategies about the videogames he plays. Yup, drawing, reading, and researching. My daughter (10) is either drawing or reading books on Libby (currently reading the Two Towers). Quality matters.

There are so many cool and amazing things we can do and learn via screens. And children are super skilled at it. So long as the time spent doesn't displace time doing other cool stuff, off-screen, especially outside.
